About the Role
The post holder will join our well-established STAR team as an inpatient Physiotherapy Technical Instructor. This role involves working as an autonomous practitioner with regular supervision from a qualified therapist. The post holder will undertake independent patient assessment and assist physiotherapists in providing a high standard therapy service to inpatients with acute conditions at St George's University Hospitals Foundation Trust.
Main Responsibilities
The post holder will carry their own caseload of patients within a defined clinical area, which may include complex conditions, as delegated by the physiotherapist. They will assess and treat their own workload of patients and maintain associated patient records utilizing knowledge and skills gained through attainment of competencies, experience, and/or relevant qualifications.
The post holder will carry out clinical tasks (such as instruction/supervision and prescription of individual and group exercise programs) delegated by qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skills.
This is a lead role with line management responsibilities for Band 3's within the team and is responsible for the supervision and training of students, rotational staff, and other therapy assistants.
The post holder is integral to patient flow through the hospital and ensuring timely discharge by ordering and monitoring of equipment maintenance and the environment, as well as supporting the team with administrative support vital for timely patient discharge, such as completing onward referrals to health and social care partners.

St George's Hospital is a major acute hospital that offers very specialist care for complex injuries and illnesses, including trauma, neurology, cardiac care, renal transplantation, cancer care, and stroke. It has a helipad which opened in spring 2014 and the work of its emergency department can currently be seen on Channel 4's '24 Hours in A&E' programme. The hospital also provides all the usual care you would expect from a local NHS district general hospital.

- GCSE or equivalent qualification in English and mathematics at grade C or above

- NVQ Level 3 in a health-related subject or similar qualification
- ECDL
The following are the essential experience and skills requirements for this role:
- Experience working within a health or social care services setting, with adults with a range of illnesses or disabilities
- Demonstrate an understanding of the therapy assistant role gained through previous employment or work/life experience
- Be able to communicate effectively (to be clearly understood by others) using verbal, non-verbal, and written methods
- Be able to recognize and adapt communication style and methods where there are challenges and/or barriers to effective communication
- Be able to keep legible and accurate written notes in English in accordance with agreed standards
- Be proactive in identifying and planning your own learning and development as part of continuing professional development

- Leading and delivering exercise programs in a hospital setting or equivalent

- Management of therapy equipment including monitoring use and ensuring maintenance

- Basic mobility and balance assessment techniques
