About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Development Engineer to join our team at the Amazon Development Centre (Scotland) Limited. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving highly scalable, robust, distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of complex software systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Solve complex customer problems, applying creative and effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to choose the right technology for the problem.
  • Break down work into manageable milestones and execute against those commitments.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues, often spanning multiple teams and disciplines.
  • Mentor junior engineers, helping them develop their skills and ability to deliver independently.
About the Team

You will be part of a talented team of Software Engineers responsible for instrumentation, measurement, and experimentation across our employee-facing products.

In partnership with peers from Data Engineers, Product Managers, and Scientists, you will tackle complex problems on behalf of our customers.

This is an exceptional opportunity to grow your technical and non-technical skills while working on products that make a real difference to Amazonians worldwide.

Requirements
  • Professional experience in software development.
  • Experience programming with modern languages such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design.
  • Experience contributing to system architecture and design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Experience with the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics, or natural language processing.
