Role Overview

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the echo service with the cardiology department at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. As an Advanced Cardiac Physiologist and Service Leader, you will work alongside a team of experienced professionals to provide high-quality echocardiograms and contribute to the development of the service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Personally perform and report echocardiograms to a high standard, adhering to British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) guidelines and local departmental standards.
  • Collaborate with the lead cardiac physiologist to provide structured training to junior staff members and doctors, aiming for BSE accreditation.
  • Maintain own BSE accreditation by ensuring up-to-date continuing professional development (CPD) and highlighting course requests to the Head of Department in a timely manner.
  • Provide an efficient running of the technical service by prioritizing daily workloads and optimizing resources.
  • Maintain standards of technical competency in non-invasive cardiac procedures.
  • Remain current with evidence-based practices in echocardiography.
  • Ensure accurate recording of echo studies in the reporting system and patient electronic records.
  • Sustain smooth operation of outpatient echo clinics, ensuring patients receive timely and high-quality care.
  • Jointly oversee the day-to-day management of the echo service, guaranteeing equipment functionality, cleanliness, and adequate stock levels.
  • Support inpatient ward services, including portable echoes and emergency responses to intensive care units.
Requirements
  • BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent science subject qualification.
  • BSE Level 2 Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) accreditation.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Register of Cardiac Physiologists (RCC).
  • Able to work effectively within a team, supervising junior staff and maintaining a flexible approach under pressure.
  • Aptitude for learning and teaching new procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with the ability to process and convey complex information.
Salary Range

£45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
