Asbestos and Silica Exposure Measurement Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join our team at the Health and Safety Executive. As an Asbestos and Silica Exposure Measurement Specialist, you will play a key role in enabling the continuation of essential research to support the implementation and evidence base for HSE's Control of Asbestos Regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct research and analysis using optical microscopy, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and other techniques to measure asbestos and silica exposure.
* Study for and pass the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) Proficiency Modules; P401 Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples by PLM P401 and P403 Air Sampling and Fibre Counting.
* Work towards the BOHS Certificate of Competence in Asbestos.
* Collaborate with wider HSE colleagues, commercial customers, and members of the public to discuss scientific findings and provide expert advice.
* Develop and maintain accurate and error-free quality outputs, adhering to health, safety, quality, and wellbeing policies and procedures.
Requirements
* A degree or equivalent in a relevant science discipline (geology, earth sciences, or equivalent).
* Experience of using software packages, including Office 365, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and the ability to use bespoke software packages.
* A full driving licence that enables you to drive in the UK.
