Job Title: Specialty Doctor in Medical Oncology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialty Doctor in Medical Oncology to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialty Doctor, you will play a vital role in the care and treatment of patients with cancer, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the continuity of patient care for patients being treated on the Oncology Day Unit, including supervision of patients admitted to the medical wards with chemotherapy-related side effects and other cancer-related problems. You will work closely with the ward-based medical staff to ensure seamless care and treatment for our patients.

As a Specialty Doctor in Medical Oncology, you will be part of the acute oncology team, working to improve acute oncology services within the trust for patients with cancer or suspected cancer. You will participate in oncology clinics with consultants, including clinics to support the recruitment, follow-up, and management of patients participating in clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise patients on the Oncology Day Unit, including administration of intra-venous chemotherapy and assessment of patients prior to chemotherapy administration.
  • Work closely with ward-based medical staff to ensure seamless care and treatment for patients.
  • Participate in oncology clinics with consultants, including clinics to support the recruitment, follow-up, and management of patients participating in clinical trials.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of acute oncology services within the trust.
Requirements
  • MCRS/FRCS/MBBS (or equivalent) qualification.
  • Fully registered with GMC with a licence to practice.
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice.
  • At least 4 years full-time post-graduate training (or its equivalent on a part-time basis), at least 2 of which should be in a training post in a relevant specialty.
  • Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competencies in relevant specialty.
  • Higher medical qualification, eg MRCP or MRCPath.
  • ICH-GCP training (if not, it will be provided in post).
