Job Overview:

This SEN Teaching Assistant position is an exciting opportunity to join our team at a Primary School in Durham. As a dedicated and caring member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting a pupil with Autism and SEMH within key stage one.

Key Duties:

  1. Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Work closely with teachers to plan and deliver IEPs tailored to the needs of the child.
  2. Provide One-on-One Support: Deliver one-on-one support and small group interventions to students with special educational needs (SEN).
  3. Implement Behaviour Management Strategies: Use evidence-based approaches to manage challenging behaviours and promote positive relationships.
  4. Foster Social Skills and Independence: Support students in developing essential life skills, including social skills, independence, and self-confidence.
  5. Maintain Progress Records: Monitor and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to teachers and parents.
  6. Supervise Students: Ensure the safety and well-being of students during breaks, lunchtime, and on excursions.
  7. Pursue Continuous Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your practice and stay up-to-date with best practices in SEN support.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Essential Experience: Previous experience working with children with Autism and Challenging Behaviour.
  • Desirable Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Special Education Needs or Child Development.
  • Key Skills: Strong understanding of the needs and challenges faced by children with SEN, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.

Working Hours and Salary:

The role is full-time, Monday to Friday 8.30 - 3.30pm. Specific hours to be discussed during the interview process. The estimated salary for this role is £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience.
