The Opportunity

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Luton. As a key member of our Electronic Warfare (EW) product development team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and leading the technical direction of EW products, both new and legacy.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in design, development, and technical leadership. You will be expected to contribute to the design and management of mechanical engineering solutions, with a focus on innovation, optimization, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components using 3D CAD software
  • Lead and manage technical teams to deliver mechanical engineering solutions
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to ensure delivery of mechanical engineering solutions
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective communication
  • Contribute to the development of innovative and optimized engineering solutions
  • Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure effective problem-solving and solution delivery
Requirements
  • Technical or science degree qualified, or equivalent, with demonstratable aerospace-related experience
  • Experience in problem-solving and concurrent engineering practices
  • Experience in mechanical engineering detailed design, including CAD, analysis, and documentation
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers and stakeholders
  • High level of competence in CAD tools, preferably Creo
  • Understanding of ERP, PLM, and PDM systems, with experience in Teamcenter, Windchill, and SAP
