Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Nelson Primary School

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at Nelson Primary School. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to children with SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities.
  • Work closely with teachers to implement strategies in line with the children's Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Deliver targeted interventions based on EHCP objectives to ensure each child's progress is regularly monitored and reviewed.
  • Collaborate with a multi-agency team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, to provide holistic support for pupils.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment, encouraging children's confidence, independence, and social skills.
  • Assist in the implementation of behavior management strategies and ensure positive pupil engagement in all activities.
  • Support pupils in developing essential life skills, promoting their social, emotional, and academic well-being.
  • Adapt lesson plans and learning materials to meet individual needs, ensuring that pupils can access the curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCO, and parents/carers.
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to stay updated on SEN best practices.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of implementing EHCP targets and working within the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
