Job Title: Assistant Transport Manager

As a key member of our Transport Team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our 24/7 Transport operations. Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Transport Team and supporting the Transport Manager in controlling costs in line with budget and forecast expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transport Operations: Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans, ensuring timely delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels.
  • Cost Control: Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, daily confirmation of spend, and collaboration with other Culina depots.
  • Fleet Management: Ensure all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan resources effectively.
  • Team Management: Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans, ensuring all staff are fully trained and equipped.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the Transport team complies with all relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Communication: Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers regarding control of reported defects on drop trailers left for pre-loading.
  • Financial Management: Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices, ensuring accurate financial management.
  • Supply Chain Management: Monitor, audit, and control suppliers to ensure optimal supply chain performance.
  • Customer Service: Attend monthly customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager, supporting communication throughout the department.
  • Continuous Improvement: Generate and implement ideas to drive continuous improvement in staff and operational processes.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
  • Transport Budget Management: Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of the Transport Budget, including various KPIs and costs.
  • Sustainability: Support the company in reducing its carbon footprint, for example, by reducing road miles.
Requirements:
  • Transport Management Experience: Previous experience in Transport Management, with a proven track record of success.
  • Leadership and Motivation: Genuine team player, firm and confident manager, skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating the team.
  • Commercial Knowledge: Commercially focused, consumer-oriented, and customer-service-driven, with good knowledge of transport operations.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to solve problems in a pressurized environment.
  • CPC Qualification: National and International CPC qualification desirable.
