About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your technical underwriting skills in the Marine Hull and War team at Liberty Specialty Markets. As an Assistant Underwriter, you will play a key role in maintaining relationships with brokers, clients, and business partners to manage a renewal portfolio and identify new business opportunities.

About the Department & Team:

The Marine Hull and War team is part of our Marine division, which provides insurance for a wide range of vessels and carriers on a global basis. Our team has a strong presence in the London market, operating on both the Lloyds and Company platform. We work closely with our partners to tailor our products to the changing market conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the execution of the annual business plan development in accordance with the stated risk tolerances.
  • Maintain and develop broker relationships.
  • Assist with day-to-day duties in quoting, reviewing renewals, and new business.
  • Act as a conduit between underwriters and underwriting assistants.
  • Analyse data and provide insights to support the underwriting team.
  • Contribute to meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practice.
  • Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to support the performance of the underwriting team.
  • Support the analysis and review of output to identify opportunities and trends.
  • Process entries onto relevant systems in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of data.
Skills and Experience:

We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of insurance business practices focused on the London market. Knowledge of Marine Hull and War insurance is desirable but not required. You should have strong organisational and prioritisation skills, an intermediate level understanding of Excel, and a high level of numeracy and literacy skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills are also essential.
