Class 1 Personnel is seeking an experienced Arboriculture Specialist to work on maintaining Council-owned trees in the Kidderminster area. Reporting to the Head of Environmental Services, you will supervise trainee staff in Health and Safety work practices.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Undertake all aspects of arboriculture and forestry, with a focus on climbing and high-level tree work operations to industry standards.
  • Organise resources to complete tasks efficiently, minimising wastage and achieving set targets.
  • Participate in training and instruction to ensure safe and efficient service performance.
  • Direct and supervise the work of trainees, volunteers, students, work placements, and contractors in line with service needs.
  • Apply herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides, maintaining records to comply with health and safety legislation and departmental safety policy.
  • Survey and inspect trees using relevant software.
  • Be flexible in approach to work, assisting other employees and meeting administrative needs.
Essential Requirements:
  • Ability to receive and understand written and verbal instructions, working within a small team.
  • Relevant NPTC Units (Level 3 awards CS30, CS31, CS32, CS35, CS38, CS39, CS40 or equivalent).
  • Full driving licence.
  • Physical capability to climb trees to great heights and practical experience in Tree Surgery operations.
  • Minimum 2 years Tree Surgery experience.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Practical experience with mobile woodchippers, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, and Stump Grinders.
  • Level 2/3 qualification in arboriculture, horticulture, or forestry.

This role involves working a standard 37-hour week, Monday to Friday, with the expectation of overtime and emergency call-outs. The position is temporary, initially until 17th January, with the possibility of extension.
