Job Description

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our world-leading ionic liquids research group at Imperial College London. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and experience in ionic liquids, biomass-derived polymers, and polymer composite preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, synthesise, and characterise ionic liquids for biomass polymer processing.
  • Develop and characterise biodegradable composite films using biomass polymers such as cellulose and polyhydroxyalkanoates.
  • Conduct independent and original research, with a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Submit publications to refereed journals and assist with the day-to-day supervision of students.

Requirements

  • Hold, or be near completion of, a PhD, or equivalent in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with ionic liquids, biomass-derived polymers, and preparation of polymer composites with ionic liquids.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication.
  • Ability to plan and conduct research independently, with a high degree of teamwork and collaboration.
