About the Role

The Product Developer position at British American Tobacco UK is a pivotal role that drives the development of innovative oral products. As a key member of our team, you will lead technology development workstreams for the Modern Oral category, ideating, developing, and evaluating new technologies and materials to drive innovation and improvements of current products.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Translate data into actionable insights and testable hypotheses, leading to technical solutions to problems.
  2. Lead the technical development and verification of technologies and formulations from problem definition and ideation through to verification of prototype performance.
  3. Identify and develop enabling technologies and formulations, utilizing levers such as novel ingredients, materials, or process technologies, to address consumer opportunity spaces, intellectual property gaps, and emerging regulatory requirements for the Modern Oral category.
  4. Create scientifically robust technical and consumer learning plans.
  5. Build and leverage relationships and external research partners and suppliers.
  6. Secure IP in partnership with patent attorneys.
  7. Provide technical support for future scale-up.

Requirements

  1. Demonstrated laboratory and early project management experience.
  2. History of technical curiosity with problem-solving skills.
  3. Degree-level qualification in a relevant field of study (e.g., Chemistry, Food Science, Technology Science, Materials Science, Engineering, etc.).
  4. Experience of working in a related laboratory environment.
  5. Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills, ability to collaborate with internal/external capabilities, and ability to plan and prioritize tasks based on business need.
