Job Overview

This is a hybrid role that combines working on the Mental Health Crisis Line and the Bedford Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team. The service operates 24/7, providing support to individuals of all ages who are experiencing a mental health crisis or require assistance with discharge from acute wards.

Main Duties

The post holder will be responsible for assessing and updating risk on each contact, taking into account medical, social, and cultural factors. They will also be expected to refer individuals to other disciplines or agencies as necessary within given timeframes.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The post holder will provide advice on mental health issues and participate in training programs for clinical teams on managing various mental health problems. They will also be expected to maintain the highest level of professionalism and service at all times, working collaboratively with teams and organisations that interact with the service.

Education/Qualification/Training

Essential Criteria

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist
  • Full UK driving license, as this post requires essential car use

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Post-qualification experience in adult and/or older adult mental health
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and ensuring culturally sensitive nursing practice
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Extensive experience assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programs, particularly in acute care or older adult community settings
  • Experience writing concise and clear clinical reports
  • Experience developing or contributing to new services, preferably in mental health

Knowledge and Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Understanding of promoting the rights, responsibilities, and recovery of adults and/or older adults with mental health problems
  • Full understanding of key issues and priorities in providing liaison mental health services in acute hospitals for individuals aged 18 and over
  • Clear understanding of current legislation and policy related to mental health services, including the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, NHS and Community Care Act 1990, and Human Rights Act 1998
  • Thorough knowledge, expertise, and practical experience of a range of therapeutic nursing skills and approaches for individuals with mental health problems aged 18 and above
  • Thorough knowledge, understanding, and practical experience of risk assessment and risk management
  • Awareness and understanding of child and adult protection issues
  • Clear understanding of clinical governance and evidence-based care
  • Clear understanding and commitment to implementing the Equal Opportunities policy
  • Understanding of research and audit
