South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is a regional authority that brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, and Sheffield to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire. We aim to deliver recovery and renewal for people, businesses, and places across the region through a strong public transport network that supports good economic and inclusive growth.

Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Policy and Strategy to lead our Transport Strategy and Policy team in developing, prioritizing, and delivering a shared transport strategy for South Yorkshire. The successful candidate will have a strong background in developing and implementing transport strategy and policy, with experience influencing senior colleagues, Board Members, and/or politicians. They will also have a practical understanding of transport analysis, appraisal, and business case development, as well as behavioral insight and experience working in the bus, rail, or tram industry.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a transformational Local Transport Plan (LTP) for South Yorkshire
- Lead the Transport Strategy and Policy team in developing, prioritizing, and delivering a shared transport strategy for South Yorkshire
- Collaborate with the Mayor, elected Members, senior leaders across directorates, local authority colleagues, external partners, community members, and other bodies interacting with this role
- Contribute to the growth and redesign of the team for the medium to long-term

Requirements:
- Proven ability to lead at a senior level in a complex, dynamic environment
- Strong strategic thinking and change management skills
- Ability to support the empowerment of others to take ownership and accountability for outcomes
- First-class strategic transport thinking and an understanding of the practical realities of real-world delivery
- Experience in transport analysis, appraisal, and business case development, as well as behavioral insight

Salary:
The salary range for this role is £89,658-£100,786 per annum, plus benefits.
