Overview of School

Excell Supply is seeking an experienced English Literacy Lead to join our team at a specialist school for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school provides education for up to 84 children and young people with EHC plans on a non-residential basis.

Overview of Role

As English Literacy Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development of a coherent, effective and inspiring approach to the curricular and co-curricular provision of literacy and reading across the school. This will involve addressing gaps in children's reading ability, including the delivery of phonics in age-appropriate approaches, and implementing cross-curricular strategies to improve reading comprehension.

Responsibilities

* Develop and implement a whole-school literacy strategy, promoting literacy skills across all subjects
* Establish and implement whole-school family reading initiatives
* Support subject staff to develop reading strategies across the curriculum
* Collaborate with teachers to identify and address reading gaps in children's abilities

Requirements

* Proven experience in leading literacy initiatives in a school setting
* Strong knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension strategies
* Excellent communication and leadership skills
