Lead Architect - AI

Barclays Bank PLC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Architect - AI to spearhead the development of our AI-powered solutions. As a key member of our Digital Customer Experience team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing cutting-edge AI solutions that drive innovation and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop AI-powered solutions that meet business requirements and enhance customer experiences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of AI projects.
  • Ensure AI systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable, handling large volumes of data and complex computations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI technologies and methodologies to continuously improve and innovate AI solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Evaluate and select AI tools and technologies that best fit project requirements and organizational goals.
  • Promote and ensure the ethical use of AI, considering privacy, fairness, and transparency in AI solutions.

Requirements:

  • Experience with delivery methodologies and organizational structures.
  • A background in complex delivery, operations, and product engineering.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Communication skills focused on both technical and business language.
  • The ability to measure the value of different approaches to technical problems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in architectural roles with broad applicability across financial services.
  • Experience in managing technical engagements to design and deliver positive outcomes in complex systems engineering.
  • Experience in AWS, AI/ML, or payments is highly valued.

This role will be based out of our Knutsford campus. As a Lead Architect - AI, you will be responsible for designing and developing AI-powered solutions that meet business requirements and enhance customer experiences. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of AI projects and ensure AI systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and development of solutions as products that can evolve, meeting business requirements that align with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling.
  • Targeted design activities that apply an appropriate workload placement strategy and maximize the benefit of cloud capabilities such as elasticity, serverless, containerization, etc.
  • Best practice designs incorporating security principles (such as defense in depth and reduction of blast radius) that meet the Bank's resiliency expectations.
  • Solutions that appropriately balance risks and controls to deliver the agreed business and technology value.
  • Fault finding and performance issues support to operational support teams, leveraging available tooling.
  • Solution design impact assessment in terms of risk, capacity, and cost impact, including estimation of project change and ongoing run costs.
  • Development of the requisite architecture inputs required to comply with the Bank's governance processes, including design artefacts required for architecture, privacy, security, and records management governance processes.

  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.

  • Seek out, build, and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.
