Specialist Teaching Assistant

Stockport, Stockport, United Kingdom Stockport Council Full time
About the Role

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our team as Specialist Teaching Assistants, supporting the development, learning, and inclusion of deaf children and young people who use either speaking and listening and/or BSL signed communication.

The successful candidates will be part of a team providing specialist deaf education and family support for deaf children and young people, working 1-1 and in small groups, both in and out of classroom settings. This may or may not include the provision of BSL signed communication support, depending on the communication preferences and needs of the children.

About You

Candidates must be able to clearly demonstrate a keen aspiration to specifically work with deaf children and young people in the specialist deaf education sector. We welcome and will consider applications from candidates who are not experienced in deaf education, but who have a basic background knowledge or strong interest in working with deaf children and young people.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, including a minimum of British Sign Language level 2. We welcome applicants who are deaf or hearing.

About Us

The post will be mainly based at our primary or secondary school resourced provision for deaf children/young people. You would be supported in your role by a warm and friendly team: Team leader, Specialist Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People and other Specialist Teaching Assistants.

Further professional development opportunities, guidance, and training are provided. We are committed to safeguarding children and young people and this post is subject to satisfactory enhanced clearance by the relevant authorities.
