Salary Information

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Flexographic Printer to join our team at our Wigan site. As a Flexographic Printer, you will be responsible for leading and operating flexographic print machines while ensuring safe and controlled working conditions. Your primary duties will include:

  • Setting up and operating print machinery to achieve optimal performance while maintaining health, safety, environmental, hygiene, and housekeeping standards.
  • Delivering and signing off work according to production orders, proactively monitoring and controlling print quality.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, such as BRC, ISO, and A2 permits.
  • Carrying out print inspections and troubleshooting issues with the printing press or print quality, identifying non-conformities and correcting deficiencies with guidance from colleagues in Technical and Quality when required.
  • Maintaining lean manufacturing principles, including 5S and SMED, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives within Production.
  • Completing all paperwork and electronic data in a timely manner, including change request forms if necessary.
  • Performing press changes and run speeds in line with KPIs, minimizing waste during print runs.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Fully trained Flexographic Printer with relevant Print qualifications, such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or 3.
  • Additional qualifications, like fire safety and first aid, are advantageous but not essential.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, preferably with GCSE-level English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in flexographic print, particularly with solvent-based inks and wide web presses.
  • Knowledge of Fischer + Krecke 16S or Bobst 20SIX CI print machines is an advantage.
  • A strong background in manufacturing, either label or packaging printing, is required.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement techniques is beneficial.
  • Plate mounting experience is an advantage.
  • Experience overseeing the work of others on the print press is essential.
  • Considerable exposure to quality, health, safety, and environmental standards and practices within a production setting is required.
Shift Pattern

This role operates a 12-hour shift pattern across a 2-week schedule:

  • Week 1: 4 days (Tuesday to Friday), 6am-6pm
  • Week 2: 3 nights (Tuesday to Thursday), 6pm-6am
  • Shift patterns may be subject to change, dependent on business requirements.

A reasonable level of fitness is required due to the physical nature of the role, involving lifting and bending.
