As Chair of Trustees for Watford Mencap, you will play a vital role in leading our organization and ensuring we continue to provide exceptional support to individuals with learning disabilities and their families in South West Herts.

We are a self-funding and independent local charity affiliated with Royal Mencap, with a rich history of providing services and support to local families for over 70 years.

Our organization operates across 10 sites in Hertsmere, Three Rivers, and Watford, and we are currently undergoing an exciting period of change.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as Chair of Trustees, bringing their expertise and passion to help shape the future of our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Board of Trustees and ensure effective governance of the organization
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive the organization's growth and success
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, partners, and community groups
  • Ensure the organization's financial stability and sustainability
  • Represent the organization at external events and meetings

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a leadership or governance role, preferably in a charity or not-for-profit organization
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge of charity law and governance best practices
