At Peer Advice Services, we are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Armed Forces Peer Support Officer. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of spinal cord injured individuals and their families.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing peer support to individuals in Armed Forces specific rehabilitation centres, as well as utilizing technology to work from home. This is a UK-wide service, and the ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to referrals from the Armed Forces, NHS Spinal Cord Injury Centres, and other hospital environments within England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
- Provide support and information to Armed Forces patients and their relatives at DMRC Stanford Hall and other appropriate venues.
- Work with individuals to establish a planned programme of support with agreed targets and conclusion dates.
- Utilize the resources of PAS to offer a comprehensive range of information and support.
- Deliver in-service training on spinal cord injuries and living with spinal cord injury to appropriate staff, where requested.
- Support individuals in dealing with their local authority, social services, local health care providers, etc.
- Promote the work of PAS and the availability of the Armed Forces Peer Service to relevant social services departments, health authorities, consumer organisations, etc.
- Establish a means of record-keeping and ensure it is kept up-to-date and held securely and in strictest confidence.
- Provide reports on monthly activity detailing contacts made and visits carried out.
