About the Role

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Research Engineer to join their Advanced Production Systems (APS) Team.

This role is primarily focused on technical delivery of complex, system-level projects and development of systems engineering activities across The MTC. You will work across various technology departments, industrial sectors, and customers.

Main Responsibilities

  • Technical project and systems engineering leadership to ensure work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements.
  • Technical delivery of projects aimed to support UK-based customers with the industrialisation and scale-up of their manufacturing plant and their products.
  • Providing technical governance, including nurturing earlier-career stage engineers in their technical development.
  • Supporting Senior Managers with a proactive approach in the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, its customers, or industrial members premises.

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate who has:

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • A track record of both verbal and written technical communication, tailoring communication style for different audiences.
  • Experience with partner and supplier liaison, including collaborating directly with customers during project delivery, acting as a technical liaison.
  • Demonstrable use of coaching and mentoring to support colleagues and transfer knowledge in area of expertise to others within own department and wider MTC colleagues.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities, with an analytical approach to implementation.
  • Experience in product development, design, industrialisation of technologies and/or manufacturing in a production environment.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience of applying Systems Engineering approaches, including all phases of the system development lifecycle, in a product development, design, industrialisation of technologies and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of defining and leading Systems Engineering activities on large-scale complex projects.
