Job Type: Contract

Category Lead (Construction) is a critical role at Spencer Clarke Group. As a Category Lead, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the Mayor's priorities, Council's corporate objectives, and the business objectives of your designated service categories.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Programme Management: You will be responsible for the effective management of procurement programme, ensuring that service departments achieve best value from all their contracts.
  • Leadership and Management: As a Category Lead, you will lead and manage staff within your area, ensuring performance management arrangements are in place to translate strategic aims into operational practice.
  • Category Expertise: You will be the Category expert within service context, providing high-level specialist procurement advice to managers and coordinating procurement activities across the designated category.
  • Contract Management: You will be responsible for the effective management of contracts from inception to delivery, including establishing effective Key Performance Indicators, collaborative working, dispute resolution, and negotiation of contracts.

About the Role:

  • Category Expertise: You will have extensive knowledge of procurement practice in the Construction industry, including European Union and United Kingdom public sector procurement methodology and best practice.
  • Commercial Acumen: You will have sound commercial acumen in relation to this Category, ensuring that the Council achieves Value for Money and manages the risks associated with all contracting activities under this Category.
  • Leadership and Management: You will be responsible for the effective management of staff, directly and through project and matrix working.
