Job Opportunity: Medical Examiner Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Medical Examiner Officer. This exciting opportunity will allow you to work closely with bereaved families, clinicians, and other stakeholders to provide high-quality care and support.

About the Role:

  • To act as an intermediary between bereaved families and clinicians, establishing and escalating concerns relating to the deceased death.
  • To support medical examiners in their role, scrutinizing the circumstances and causes of death, and facilitating feedback from the bereaved.
  • To establish the circumstances of individuals' deaths by performing preliminary reviews of medical records, sourcing additional details as required, and highlighting inconsistencies or areas of concern to medical examiners.
  • To maintain awareness of diverse needs of users of the medical examiner system, ensuring equality for all groups defined by sex, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, or disability.

Requirements:

  • Highly evolved empathetic and self-awareness skills to deal with bereaved families who may have barriers to understanding information due to their grief or disability.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology enabling informed discussions about causes/circumstances of death with bereaved families, clinicians, coroner, and registration service staff.
  • Knowledge of statutory process around death certification legal frameworks and the Coroner & Justice Act 2009 with reference to the medical examiner system.
  • Understanding of how the medical examiner system aligns with other related organizations and NHS initiatives (LeDeR, CDOP).
  • Computer literate to use multiple IT software for recording personal identifiable data and producing statistical information for the National Medical Examiners office and Public Health surveillance.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in a highly pressurized, unpredictable environment where bereavement care is central to service delivery.
  • Able to demonstrate a professional manner to all stakeholders and when representing the Trust.

Salary: £32,000 - £42,000 per annum. Location: Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, Kent, UK.
