We are seeking an exceptional Head of Academic English to join our team at Dibden Park School in Southampton. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in shaping the educational experience of our students and contributing to the school's mission to provide a holistic, wraparound care and education service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the English department, developing and implementing English policy and procedure, and improving the quality of pupils' learning in English across all key stages. You will also have lead responsibility for reading across the school and reading interventions, as well as teaching a range of subjects as necessary to ensure the effective delivery of the school's curriculum.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the English department and develop plans to improve the quality of pupils' learning in English across all key stages.
- Develop and implement English policy and procedure, ensuring that it is aligned with the school's overall strategy.
- Have lead responsibility for reading across the school and reading interventions, working closely with teachers and support staff to ensure that students receive the support they need.
- Teach a range of subjects as necessary to ensure the effective delivery of the school's curriculum, including English, literacy, and numeracy.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the school's curriculum, ensuring that it is relevant, engaging, and meets the needs of all students.
- Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure that students receive the support they need to achieve their full potential.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of English teaching and learning, making recommendations for improvement as necessary.
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- Experience of leading a department or team in a school setting
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and students
- Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures, ensuring that they are aligned with the school's overall strategy
- Knowledge of English curriculum and assessment frameworks, with the ability to develop and implement effective teaching and learning strategies
