Quantum Computing Researcher Position in Distributed Systems
6 days ago
About the Role
The postholder will be responsible for simulating and modeling quantum computer networked systems to create distributed quantum computing platforms. This involves formalising and parameterising requirements, as well as exploring dependencies between technologies (quantum processors, interconnects), quantum information transfer methods (entanglement) and networking to identify performance (latency, fidelity, scalability) and operational limits.
Key responsibilities include researching the performance of monolithic and entanglement-based distributed quantum circuits with direct and switched entanglement links. The postholder will also explore heterogeneous data centre networked architectures to seamlessly support both quantum and classical computing.
The successful applicant will take the lead on simulation and modeling of the distributed quantum computing system. Additionally, they will work closely with UCL researchers, the ONG group, and project partners.
This position is available for an initial period of 9 months, starting from January 14th. Further funding may be available to support the post. The salary range is expected to be around £38,000 - £41,000 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
About You
The ideal candidate should possess an MSc in Quantum Technologies or a related field, with proven experience in areas such as quantum computing, techniques to distribute quantum circuits, and GPU-based simulation acceleration techniques. Excellent written and spoken English, as well as presentation skills, are essential for disseminating research at conferences and through journal papers.
Additionally, knowledge and experience of optical switching systems, random circuit sampling, and ability to benchmark system performance are highly desirable.
