Job Summary

The Environmental and Sustainability Officer role is a key position within Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for assisting in the management of energy, water, and carbon emissions across the Trust estate and partner sites. This role will contribute to reducing usage and production, resulting in cost savings and an improved patient experience.

Main Duties

The Environmental and Sustainability Officer will work closely with the Environmental and Sustainability Manager to develop and implement plans to reduce the environmental impact of the organisation's activities, in line with local and national statutory and regulatory targets. This will involve developing and delivering sustainability behaviour change and staff engagement programmes, supporting sustainability communications, and working on a portfolio of projects that support the Green Plan.

Responsibilities

The Environmental and Sustainability Officer will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of current and emerging legislation, liaising with the Environmental and Sustainability Manager to manage utility contracts, and producing statistics to identify trends and anomalies. They will also work with colleagues across all business streams to provide help and advice where appropriate.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a minimum level NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area, such as environmental management, science, engineering, or healthcare. They will also have experience in identifying and addressing environmental and sustainability issues, engaging with staff on behaviour change projects, and producing engaging communications.

Working Arrangements

The Environmental and Sustainability Officer will be required to travel across Trust sites and community premises, and will need to be able to work flexible hours to suit the job requirements. They will also be required to speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
