At Durham University, we are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to contribute to our exciting new project, From the Centre to the Periphery. This £1.5 million UKRI-funded initiative aims to address regional economic disparities within the UK and explore the role education plays in reducing spatial divides.

The successful candidate will work closely with our research team to develop field study protocols, collect and analyze data, and produce high-quality outputs for academic and non-academic audiences. Our ideal candidate possesses expertise in social policy evaluations, research methods, and qualitative analysis, with a strong background in policy design and implementation.

This is an excellent opportunity for ambitious early career researchers to join one of the largest studies ever conducted on spatial inequalities in education and social mobility within the UK. The post-holder will have the chance to develop their skills, work collaboratively as part of a team, and contribute to the advancement of the project through developing their own research ideas and adapting existing protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist the research leads in developing field study protocols
  • To prepare data from field-studies and prepare it for analysis and synthesis
  • To present research outputs and activities to various audiences, including research sponsors, academics, and non-academics
  • To publish high-quality outputs in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings
