Derby City Council is seeking an experienced Curator to join our team at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum

Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled professional with expertise in curating and caring for archaeological collections, particularly those related to Egyptology. As part of the Reimagining with the City project, you will be responsible for leading the development of new approaches to the display and care of these collections.

You will work closely with the Head of Interpretation and Display, the Head of Collections, and other stakeholders to develop and deliver plans for the re-display of ancient Egypt collections and the redevelopment of Archaeology and Natural Sciences galleries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for the care and interpretation of archaeological collections
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design new galleries and interpretive strategies
  • Co-produce displays, programs, and activities that support visitor engagement and inspire curiosity in Derby's story
  • Work with volunteers and community groups to enhance the visitor experience through the use of collections

Requirements:

  • Specialist knowledge and experience of curating and caring for archaeological collections, including Egyptology
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations regarding these collections
  • Experience working on projects that encourage participation and dialogue with stakeholders in the community
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
