About the Role

The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse plays a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals who use our services, their families, friends, and carers. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the success of our services by working closely with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals to deliver seamless care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Utilize your clinical judgment and risk assessments to ensure patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes.
  • Safeguard patients by recognizing and responding to potential risks of abuse, and escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Act as an effective advocate for patients and their families, and maintain open and transparent communication about your practice.
  • Supervise the work of others and reflect on your own practice to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other teams and services to provide comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records, and adhere to mandatory training requirements.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) on the live register.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and a commitment to further education.
  • Mentorship in Practice/ENB 998 or equivalent (or a willingness to complete).

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in Psychiatric Nursing, Psychotherapy, Counselling, or a related discipline.
  • Post-registration experience in a mental health setting, with knowledge of counseling skills and risk assessment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, and to demonstrate written and verbal skills.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the Mental Health Act (1983), the Mental Health Code of Practice, and the CPA process.
  • Specialist knowledge of mental health problems and their relationship to physical disorders.
  • Ability to build constructive relationships using warmth and empathy, and to engage challenging patients in potentially hostile situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a team and with external organizations.
