About the Role

XCEPT is seeking a highly experienced Senior Researcher to lead the comparative analysis and synthesis of its research findings. The successful candidate will work closely with the XCEPT research leadership team to survey existing research, identify key themes and findings, and prepare a comprehensive overview paper.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct a thorough review of XCEPT research to date, identifying comparative and overarching findings
  • Develop a lead role in situating XCEPT themes and findings within current academic debates and literature
  • Prepare an initial draft of an overview paper, incorporating summaries of evidence on select themes
  • Collaborate with the XCEPT research leadership team to refine the synthesis and prepare a final draft
  • Participate in drafting evidence syntheses on targeted themes, as identified for further research development
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant discipline, such as international affairs, international development, or political science, with at least five years of research experience in fragile and conflict-affected settings
  • Familiarity with research methods for systematic literature reviews and evidence syntheses
  • Experience in research leadership and demonstrated capacity to synthesise research and evidence
  • Strong background and publications record in the fields of borderlands and transnational conflict
  • Solid knowledge of academic literatures and current debates related to borderlands and/or transnational dimensions of conflict
  • Experience delivering research and analysis for policy, including distilling academic literature into actionable considerations for policy audiences
  • Excellent analytic skills and English language writing skills, with an ability to write clearly and concisely
