We are seeking an experienced HCPC Registered Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist to lead the Blood Transfusion Laboratory at University Hospitals Sussex. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the daily management, quality, and training within the department, as well as general leadership duties directed by the Lead BMS.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise Biomedical Scientists, trainees, and MLAs, including training of junior staff completing their Registration & Specialist Portfolios.
  2. Practice as a Senior Specialist HCPC Registered BMS to provide a high-quality service.
  3. Apply professional judgement and utilise specialist skills and detailed scientific knowledge to provide a high-quality and timely result service.
  4. Maintain quality with the Blood Transfusion department, ensuring compliance with BSQR.
  5. Establish and maintain communication of any relevant information within the team to ensure the continual and efficient running of the service.
  6. Support BMS, Trainee BMS, and MLA staff in answering more complex enquiries.
  7. Participate in team meetings, taking the lead as appropriate, and communicate effectively at all times.
  8. Communicate regularly with Lead BMS's to ensure high-quality standards and the smooth running of the department.
  9. Conduct, co-ordinate, and minute departmental technical meetings as required by the Lead BMS.
  10. Attend, address, and lead meetings outside of the Department as appropriate.
  11. Plan and prioritise the work of allocated sections to ensure that reporting of results is carried out in a timely fashion, deputising to cover for the absence of other Senior Specialist BMS staff.

Requirements:

  1. HCPC registration and a MSc Biomedical Sciences Degree, with the BBTS qualification.
  2. Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and commitment aimed at maintaining and developing a quality service in their specialisation.
  3. Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  4. Excellent written and spoken English.
  5. Experience of the above-mentioned analysers would be an advantage.
  6. Able to plan and prioritise own workload.
  7. IT literate with experience of LIMS systems.
