Job Summary

Widener University is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist to join their Fiscal Operations team. This key role is responsible for the bi-weekly payroll processing for the University's 3 campus locations, ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process bi-weekly payrolls for support staff and student workers, including supplemental and off-cycle payments.
  • Analyze and maintain student contracts, W-4's, direct deposit, and miscellaneous forms to ensure proper pay.
  • Work proactively with supervisors and employees to resolve payroll-related issues, including pay lines, timesheets, and discrepancies.
  • Determine and enter appropriate payroll tax withholdings for all University personnel.
  • Review electronic web time entry information, including positions, codes, and time, for compliance with University policies.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll and wage reports to departments.
  • Collect, review, and maintain documentation for student contracts, tax information, direct deposit, and miscellaneous forms.
  • Lead and execute the student workers payroll process.
  • Serve as an expert on the University's electronic time entry system, working collaboratively with University personnel to learn, perform, and educate on updates and improvements.
Requirements
  • One to three years of payroll or financial operations experience.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to process changes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct and work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer-centric orientation.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform advanced MS Excel functions, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of applicable tax law.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools, including the ability to adapt and implement new systems and applications.
  • Higher education or non-profit experience.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Hours
  • Occasional lifting less than 15lbs.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Usual office environment; routines sitting at a desk occasionally standing, bending, stooping, or kneeling.
