Chemring Energetics UK Ltd is a leading global business that provides innovative solutions for defence, civil defence, and commercial customers. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager to join their team.

About the Role

This challenging position involves carrying out day-to-day operations of the HSE department and contributing to effective Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental management by providing technical support.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Compliance Management: Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with HSE legislation, company policy, and procedures.
  • Risk Assessment and Reporting: Conduct risk assessments and report any unsafe acts or conditions observed using the Near Miss System.
  • Policy Implementation: Support the HSE Operations Manager in ensuring that the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Policy and underpinning management systems are understood and adhered to.
  • Audit and Inspection: Conduct H&S inspections, audits, and monitoring to ensure compliance and manage actions arising from these activities.
  • System Maintenance: Support the maintenance of safety and environmental management systems, including data updates, statistics analysis, report generation, and procedure development.
  • Risk Assessment Support: Assist in completing risk assessments to an acceptable standard.
  • Safe Operational Procedures: Outline safe operational procedures identifying relevant hazards and suggest changes to working practices that comply with legislation.
  • Site Inspections: Carry out regular site inspections to check policy implementation.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain relevant HSE logs and documentation, and support the HSE Operations Manager in preparing HSE reports.
  • Training Development: Assist in developing and presenting relevant HSE training material.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and be able to build effective relationships with managers, employees, customers, and regulatory agencies.

About You
  • HSE Qualifications: A degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety and Health is required.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership of IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment) is preferred.
  • Certifications: Internal auditor OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications are desirable.
  • Experience: Experience within an HSE team in a high-hazard manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Skills: Strong IT, communication, and team-working skills are necessary.
Benefits

The salary for this position is £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
