Assistant Accountant Job DescriptionThis role requires a detail-oriented individual with a passion for numbers to join our team in Abingdon. The successful candidate will have a solid foundation in accounting and finance, ready to make a significant contribution to our small department.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage daily cash flow and postings for 3 bank accounts, including allocation of receipts and payments
- Post purchase ledger invoices and request budget-holder approval where necessary
- Produce monthly payment runs and ad-hoc payments
- Process BACS payments to suppliers using our bank system
- Raise intercompany recharge invoices
- Collect debts, including chasing, sending invoices, credit notes, and statements
- Reconcile and maintain vendor accounts
- Open new approved customer accounts, including credit checking and verifying account application forms
- Process monthly payrolls, including pensions, salary journals, and HMRC submissions
- Prepare daily sales reports and backups
- Complete intrastat reports every month
- Administer employee expense claims (cash and credit card)
- Run month-end routines and open new accounting periods
- Perform bank reconciliations and currency revaluations
- Manage fixed assets, including depreciations and disposals
- Accrue and prepay expenses
- Handle bad debt, inventory, obsolete stock, and profit in stock (provisions/calculations)
- Produce draft trial balances, including analysis of variances
- Assist in preparing annual accounts and audit
- Previous experience in an all-round accounting position, ideally within a small company
- Working knowledge of MS Office software, mainly Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is desirable but not essential
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good time-keeping and time management
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to work to deadlines and set own targets
