Sustainable Mining Research Associate

We are seeking an experienced Graduate Research Assistant to join our NERC-funded consortium project PAMANA: Philippine Mining at the National to Catchment Scale – from Legacy Impacts to Sustainable Futures. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with Professor Karen Hudson-Edwards and other international researchers to develop a novel catchment monitoring and management infrastructure that informs sustainable mining practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organisation, preparation, and analysis of geochemical and mineralogical compositions of samples of river sediments and mine tailings collected in Philippine river catchments.
- Collate and analyse data statistically and spatially, documenting research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current advances in environmental geochemistry and mineralogy of river sediments and mine tailings.
- Contribute to consortium workshops and cross-disciplinary activities, assisting in the publication of results in peer-reviewed journal articles.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental geoscience or equivalent experience.
- Excellent understanding of environmental geochemistry and mineralogy of river sediments and mine tailings, with skills in soil and tailings sample preparation and geochemical and mineralogical analysis.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, able to convey complex information orally, in writing, and electronically.
