About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding team in Sunderland. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate coding of patient records and contributing to the development of clinical coding standards.

Main Duties

  • To code all specialty-based patient admissions by abstracting clinical data from electronic patient records.
  • To be proficient in translating this data into diagnostic (ICD-10) and procedure (OPCS4) classification codes.
  • To work closely with clinicians to ensure that specialty level data is timely, standardized, and robust.
  • To mentor junior coders and provide support and guidance as needed.
  • To undertake regular coding audits and reviews to assess coding accuracy, depth, and quality.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in clinical coding.
  • Advanced knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 national guidelines and standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
