We are seeking a highly skilled Podiatry Specialist to join our team at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality Musculoskeletal (MSK)/Podiatry care to our local population in Milton Keynes.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Podiatrist to transition into a Specialist MSK Band 6 Podiatrist through structured and mentored MSK/Podiatry competencies. The competencies will be based on the Royal College of Podiatry Musculoskeletal (MSK) Capabilities Framework and the Podiatry Competency Framework for Integrated Diabetic Foot Care.
The post holder will be expected to plan and manage their own caseload, providing specialist care for high-risk patients and those with MSK, diabetic, rheumatoid, and biomechanical problems.
Main Responsibilities- To adopt a problem-solving approach and develop, advise on, support, and encourage shared decision-making, gaining consent and enacting an integrated management plan that considers investigations, interventions, and therapy options or support packages.
- To undertake functional gait assessments and follow through agreed treatment plans with an end result of improved foot and ankle pathology and develop discharge plans with each individual where appropriate.
- To develop an understanding of assessment techniques, including their validity, reliability, specificity, and sensitivity, and the implications of these limitations within an assessment.
- To comply with health and safety requirements and take an active role in supporting and delivering Health Promotion events within the Service.
- BSc Degree in Podiatry/Podiatric Medicine with local anaesthesia
- Registration with the Health Professions Council
- Hold a Certificate in local anaesthesia
- Experience of treating a varied caseload of podiatry patients, including those with high-risk conditions
- Experience of foot orthotic manufacture
- Knowledge of the effect of lower limb biomechanics on Orthopaedic/MSK conditions
- Knowledge of HCPC code of conduct
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality and Governance
- Awareness of Equality and diversity in practice
- Knowledge of current evidence-based best practices
- Evidence of treatment planning/patient management
- Skills to carry out a biomechanical assessment and orthopaedic examination of gait, lower limb joints, and muscle
- To demonstrate clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in the management of biomechanics/MSK Conditions and other podiatric conditions
- To have an understanding of foot orthoses and their applications and manufacture
- To be able to use appliance laboratory equipment - Grinding machines
- Skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of podiatric conditions
- The ability to 'risk categorize' patients
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality and Governance
- Ability and experience of foot health education/promotion
- Ability to undertake nail surgery assessments, procedures, and post-operative care
- Ability to work with a diverse population
- Knowledge of health and Safety at work
- Knowledge of safeguarding
- To have an understanding of advanced modalities of treatments relevant to biomechanics
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn
- Ability to cope with a varied and demanding high turnover workload
- Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time
