Job Title: Environmental Compliance Specialist

As part of our commitment to delivering a safe and reliable train service, we are seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support compliance with all relevant environmental obligations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, develop, and improve our integrated Environment and Energy Management System (EEnMS) in line with ISO14001:2015 and ISO5001:2018.
  • Develop or update necessary standards and procedures to ensure environmental compliance across all aspects of environmental management.
  • Review existing and upcoming relevant legislation and ensure that we have appropriate systems, policies, and practices in place to remain compliant.
  • Support the planning and delivery of the environmental internal audit programme to assess the effectiveness of the EEnMS.
  • Work with our Property team to ensure water discharges are within environmental permits and trade effluent consents.
  • Liaise with Local Authorities, Environment Agency, and other Statutory Bodies as necessary.
  • Ensure environmental performance data is collated, reviewed, and reported periodically.
  • Attend environmental events to maintain knowledge of best practices.
Requirements:
  • A Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or similar.
  • Member of IEMA or other equivalent environmental professional body (or working towards).
  • Excellent understanding of ISO14001 and ISO5001 Environmental and Energy management systems.
  • Experience in managing environmental compliance projects.
  • Deep understanding of environmental compliance in a complex business setting.
  • Knowledge of the business environment in which we operate.
  • Experience with engaging with regulators and other stakeholders.
