Advanced Nurse Practitioner Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at Sexual Health Hounslow as the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).

You will use your passion, empathy, and specialist knowledge of Sexual and Reproductive Health to deliver advanced nursing skills to our patients and drive training and education to our team of Nurses.

Main Responsibilities
  1. The ANP will inform the strategic direction of the clinic as well as in the GUM Directorate regarding the continued development of nurse-led sexual healthcare.
  2. The ANP will provide specialist education and development for nursing staff and colleagues through education programmes, individual development programmes, and clinical supervision.
  3. The ANP promotes excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a resource, developing practice, and commitment to research and audit.
Key Duties
  • The ANP will use their specialist knowledge, skills, and experience in providing sexual healthcare to undifferentiated patients attending the Sexual and Reproductive departments within the Specialist Care division.
  • The ANP will directly line manage the Nurse Practitioner team and support the nursing team and junior doctors to complete competency-based training programmes appropriate to their level.
  • The ANP will assess and interpret complex clinical information and data in partnership with the patient to make appropriate diagnoses, developing and implementing a plan of healthcare management including prescribing medications or referring for medical review if required.
Requirements
  • Accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner qualification or appropriate MSc or Masters Level Course or willingness to attain.
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent level of experience.
  • Non-Medical Prescribing course.
  • Evidence of recent, relevant professional development at recognised accredited level.
  • Registered Nurse - Adult Level.
  • Registered Mental Nurse.
Experience
  • Substantial experience in genito-urinary medicine / sexual and reproductive healthcare.
  • Experience of managing a case load of patients and nurse-delivered clinics.
  • Experience of working within a multi-professional team.
  • Experience of undertaking audit and research.
  • Experience of writing and implementing protocols and guidelines.
  • Experience of working as a Non-Medical Prescriber.
  • Experience of implementing and providing health promotion.
  • Involvement in providing care for high-risk groups e.g. gay men, young people, commercial.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Comprehensive theoretical and clinical knowledge of GUM related health conditions.
  • Ability to undertake comprehensive history taking.
  • A commitment to work within an advanced role embracing 'freedom to act' within scope of practice.
  • Ability to independently assess patients, interpret clinical findings diagnose and implement appropriate treatment for GUM related conditions within own competency and refer to physician as appropriate.
  • Ability to lead a clinical team in the absence of the consultant team leader.
  • Experience in the performance management process.
  • Comprehensive theoretical and clinical knowledge of Contraceptive related issues and is trained in LARC fitting.
