We are seeking a highly skilled Employee Relations and Policy Manager to join our dynamic and inclusive People Team at Historic Environment Scotland (HES). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our colleague policies, ensuring they are compliant, inclusive, and focused on improving the HES colleague experience.
You will work closely with the Head of People Services and the wider People Services team to deliver effective HR services and ensure admin support for Resourcing and Payroll is provided. Your proven track record of progressing case activity promptly and independently while confidently managing risk will be key.
As an expert in employee relations and policy, you'll shape the capabilities of your team and enhance the way we handle case activity through training, toolkits, hands-on guidance, and upskilling.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the delivery of excellent HR operational service to employees and managers.
- Manage the overall workload across the HR Advisers to ensure manageable and equitable split, while also reviewing requests for resource to support wider People Strategy related projects within the Directorate and allocating resource accordingly.
- Provide skilled, risk, and environmentally aware advice in more complex ER cases and act as the escalation point for HR Managers.
- Work with the Head of People Services and wider People Team to ensure transformation, development, and management of our new and existing policies and procedures.
We are looking for a candidate with a solid working knowledge of the principles and practices of employee relations and working with Trade Unions. You will have an in-depth knowledge and application of UK employment law and regulations, with experience of making risk-based decisions.
Proven track record of leading engaged and successful teams to deliver a quality service is essential. Experience of policy development and maintenance, where the employee experience is at the heart of decision making, is also required.
Desirable requirements include experience of working in a similar sector, such as cultural heritage, tourism, or public sector environments, or have transferrable HR skills.
Qualifications & Professional MembershipsSCQF level 9 or equivalent qualifications/experience, e.g., a degree in a HR or business management related discipline, is essential.
