About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Waste Management Specialist to join our team at the National Nuclear Laboratory. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in managing waste operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing guidance on safe systems of work.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the operations of liquid effluent facilities, deputising for the Technical Support Manager (Waste & Environment), and overseeing the management of solid waste consignments to Sellafield/NWS/Mitie. They will also manage waste liabilities costings, appointed in compliance roles including Radiation Protection Supervisor (Sources), CoSHH Coordinator, Environmental Coordinator, ILW Coordinator, Plant Solid Waste Coordinator, PCM Coordinator, and Liquid Effluent Coordinator. Additionally, they will ensure compliance of Safe Systems of Work procedures, provide advice and guidance on operational documentation, and lead regulator interventions such as ONR and Environment Agency.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience of working in an industrial environment
  • Safe systems of work and associated documentation knowledge
  • iOSH Working Safely or higher
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of liquid effluent and waste management requirements
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills
  • GCSE's grade C or equivalent in Science, English, and Maths (STEM subject)
