UK Tax Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled UK Tax Accountant to join our team at Allen & Overy. As a key member of our Partners' Affairs and Tax team, you will play a critical role in managing the UK tax affairs of our group, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and providing high-quality tax advice to our business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare partnership tax computations and submit tax returns to HM Revenue & Customs.
  • Prepare UK tax computations for various partnerships and submit tax returns in a timely manner.
  • Prepare corporate tax and governance returns, including SAO, for our subsidiary corporate entities.
  • Assist in the year-end closing process, including deferred tax calculations.
  • Assist in tax accounting and preparation of tax notes for disclosure in our statutory accounts.
  • Complete VAT returns, including management and reconciliation of VAT accounting.
  • Advise partners and finance teams on complex VAT matters.
  • Participate in various projects, such as tax digitalization, capital allowances, employment tax aspects, and business structuring.
Requirements:
  • Experience in preparing UK tax computations.
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using Excel and tax software packages, including Alphatax and CCH Personal Tax.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical tax and accounting matters to non-specialists.
  • Experience in submitting corporate and partnership tax returns online.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of tax issues affecting professional partnerships is desirable.
  • An appropriate professional financial qualification, such as CTA/ACA/ACCA/ATT or qualified by experience, is essential.
