Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil and Structural Engineer to join our team at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). As a key member of our Blast Damage Assessment Team, you will play a crucial role in analysing the effects of blast waves on buildings and infrastructure.

About the Role

You will be responsible for participating in research and development of tools to predict the response of structures to blast loading. This will involve running and developing high-fidelity structural models, as well as reduced-order models. You will also utilise state-of-the-art supercomputers to understand complex blast effects through fluid dynamics simulations and structural analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement tools to predict the response of structures to blast loading
  • Conduct research and analysis to understand complex blast effects
  • Collaborate with other team members to achieve project goals
  • Present research findings at stakeholder meetings and conferences

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant STEM field
  • Experience in non-linear static and dynamic analysis
  • Knowledge of structural design to industry standards
  • Ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority-changing environment
