Job Summary

\

This role is a Senior Laboratory Research Scientist position in the Cancer Dynamics research group at The Francis Crick Institute. The successful candidate will join our team and work closely with the Flow Cytometry Science Technology Platform (STP) to provide advice, training, and expertise in various techniques for analyzing human cancer specimens.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform multi-colour flow cytometry, cell sorting, and optimize single-cell dissociation from different tissue types.\
  • Develop and optimize novel protocols to handle different input substrates, antibody panel optimization, and high-parameter flow cytometry assays using advanced cytometers.\
  • Collaborate with industry partners to develop future assays and contribute to existing projects by performing established techniques.\
  • Maintain laboratory organization, ensure efficient operation, and adhere to safety standards.\
  • Communicate and participate in lab work discussions, meetings, and presentations to stakeholders.\
  • Strive for continuous performance improvement and maintain professional development through attending meetings, seminars, and relevant literature.\
  • Write and present work to MANIFEST stakeholders as required.\
  • Engage in relevant MANIFEST programme workflows with academic, NHS, and industry partners.\

We offer a competitive salary range of £45,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits, including a generous pension scheme, annual leave, and flexible working hours. Required Skills and Qualifications

  • \
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.\
  • Evidence of extensive experience/skills in flow cytometry and cell sorting.\
  • Experience operating flow cytometers and cell sorters (e.g., BD FACSAria, Fortessa Symphony).\
  • Proven evidence of independent thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting.\
  • Flexible working practice.\
  • Able to work with day-to-day independence but able to take direction when necessary.\
  • High degree of self-motivation.\
  • Ability to multi-task and integrate demands of different activities in parallel to maintaining operation of the laboratory.\
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication.\
  • Computer literacy.\
  • Open and interactive approach with line manager, laboratory colleagues, and collaborators.\
