Main Responsibilities

The Personal Advisor as an Education, Employment and Training (EET) Transitions Coach will work on this project focusing specifically on increasing the number of young people in employment, education, and training, including support in gaining work experience, completing application forms, and providing advice and guidance.

The postholder will perform the following duties, working to a clear performance framework and sustainability, reporting to the Senior Fieldwork Manager.

  • Provide expertise in overcoming the barriers that care leavers face in accessing education, employment, and training.
  • Support and bridge care leavers through specialist support interventions as part of the local Care Leaver Offer, and as part of a holistic approach embedded into the care leaver service.
  • Up-skill peers towards a broader understanding of education and employment pathways; provide specialist input into Pathway Plans in relation to career planning.
  • Deliver a tailored EET support package which prepares care leavers for the world of work and provide in-work support for care leavers and employers, liaising with external employment providers and lifelong learning services in the City Council and other key stakeholders who can provide career opportunities and/or apprenticeships.
  • Provide additional emotional health and wellbeing support to care leavers, supporting mental health wellbeing to progress and sustain both engagement in employment, education, and training, and stable housing outcomes. Utilize existing resources in the service, including CAMHS and voluntary sector services.
  • Coach for resilience development especially around confidence in care leavers' abilities, workplace relationships, behavior expectations, protocols, processes, and systems.
  • Provide support and advice to care leavers around financial management and budgeting, addressing issues that correlate with maintaining accommodation and housing and EET status.
Key Qualifications
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum and willingness to undertake additional training and/or qualifications as required.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge about local arrangements for accessing primary and specialist health services including mental health for young people and adults.
  • Basic understanding of the law relating to young people with an understanding of the legal framework and its practical implications.
  • Understanding of the law relating to client confidentiality.
  • Understanding of legislation relevant to leaving care e.g. Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and Children and Social Work Act 2017.
  • Aware of the criminal justice system and the respective roles and responsibilities of youth justice services, HMPPS/CRC, and children's services.
  • Ability to relate research evidence to professional practice.
  • The ability to assess financial support needs and handle cash to provide immediate support to young people and assist them in budgeting and spending decisions.
