Job Description:

The position of Senior Pharmacy Technician at Kings College Hospital presents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in the Patient Services department. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Deputy Dispensary Manager in the day-to-day management of the dispensary, ensuring the smooth operation and quality service delivery.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To organize and manage the dispensary-based services, including inpatients, outpatients, TTAs, controlled drugs, and Clinical Trials, with a focus on achieving agreed performance targets.
  • To deputise for the Deputy Dispensary Manager during periods of absence, taking charge of the dispensary's operations and resolving any issues that may arise.
  • To contribute to the development of policies and procedures specific to the dispensary service, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective.
  • To review and address dispensary errors, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence and reporting progress to the Dispensary Manager.
  • To participate in cross-site meetings aimed at standardizing practice across sites.
  • To take part in the dispensary checking rota, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
  • To manage the monthly archiving process of prescriptions to Iron Mountain, maintaining confidentiality and security.
  • To promote good stock control, optimizing resource utilization and minimizing waste while encouraging the reuse of medicines where feasible.
  • To cover duties of other senior Dispensary staff in their absence, providing support and maintaining continuity.
  • To assist in preparing weekly rotas, guaranteeing sufficient staffing for all dispensary duties.
  • To distribute FP10 prescription pads securely, adhering to hospital storage arrangements.
  • To regularly monitor activity and quality data, using this information to maintain a high-quality service.
  • To ensure the safe, effective, and economical use of drugs for all patients in the Trust.
  • To participate in audits conducted within the Dispensary, identifying areas for improvement.
  • To deal with verbal complaints, safety concerns, and investigate incidents, providing solutions and support.
  • To investigate and resolve stock discrepancies (including controlled drugs), maintaining accuracy and accountability.
  • To participate in the routine destruction of Controlled Drugs alongside a delegated responsible person.
  • To contribute to service developments within the department, applying expertise and knowledge.
  • To adhere to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and accurately dispense inpatient, outpatient, and discharge medication.
  • To competently counsel patients on the use of their outpatient medication.
  • To contribute to wider policies affecting the pharmacy department and across the Trust.
  • To support the Dispensary Manager by contributing to the development of the Dispensary Services.
  • To utilize pharmacy computer systems correctly, entering data accurately from transcription sheets, prescription forms, and other prescriptions.
  • To ensure data is stored and archived appropriately, adhering to local and regional guidelines.
  • To apply initiative to prioritize work effectively.
  • To participate in the Department's seven-day working model, which includes weekends, late nights, and bank holiday working rota.

Requirements:

  • NVQ Pharmacy services Level 3 plus accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent) or equivalent.
  • Professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification, or currently undertaking.

Salary: £35,964 - £43,780 Per annum pro rata incl HCA
