Public Affairs Specialist

**Job Overview:**
Unitas Communications is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to join our team. As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will be responsible for conceiving and writing opinion articles on current affairs issues, as well as experience in media relations and strategic communications.
You will lead on brainstorming new ideas for content that meets client goals, develop and implement media pitches to op-ed editors, and write, edit, and proofread opinion editorial articles on behalf of clients. You will also be responsible for managing and providing direction on social media content, developing relevant collateral materials, and developing professional relationships with media personnel.
The successful candidate will have outstanding writing, research, editing, and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines. They will also be flexible and adaptable, with a keen interest in news and current affairs, especially foreign affairs. A passion for creating engaging and compelling content is essential for this role.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Conceive and write opinion articles on current affairs issues
- Develop and implement media pitches to op-ed editors
- Write, edit, and proofread opinion editorial articles on behalf of clients
- Manage and provide direction on social media content
- Develop relevant collateral materials including narrative and messaging strategy guidance, fact sheets, briefings, presentation slides, website content, newsletter content and blogs
**Requirements:**
- Relevant postgraduate degree preferred, but relevant Bachelors degree will be considered based on experience
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in the field
- Outstanding writing, research editing and verbal communication skills with strict attention to detail
- Demonstrated proficiency in pitching, writing and publishing opinion articles on current affairs containing creative, compelling, and accurate content in a variety of styles for diverse audiences
- Excellent copyediting capabilities
- A passion for current affairs, global news, politics, and policy issues – this is especially preferred for issues pertaining to the Global South (climate change, human rights, faith-based issues, refugee crises etc.) and how it relates to the Global North
- Deep knowledge of how the media works and how best to communicate with opinion editors, as well as other editors and journalists
- Formidable ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and often chaotic environment
- A flexible and adaptable personal style capable of rearranging priorities swiftly
- An openness and interest in different cultures
**Salary:** £60,000-£75,000 per annum. We offer a competitive salary, generous holiday allowance, and opportunities for career progression within the company.
