About the Role

Cabot Corporation is seeking a skilled Chemical Process Technician to join our Operations team in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for safely controlling chemical processes, managing contractor and technician activities, and troubleshooting process events and issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to individual and team performance in accordance with site performance metrics, including safety, off-quality, process safety management, and permit compliance.
  • Operate and monitor FMO processes via the DCS control panel, ensuring process safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Carry out troubleshooting activities and follow Response Flow Checklists in response to process deviations, ensuring any issues are dealt with or escalated to the shift manager or other personnel as necessary.
  • Manage the safety of maintenance technicians, contractors, and integrity of the processes, taking all necessary actions to ensure a safe work environment that adheres to Cabot standards.
  • Assign preventative maintenance activities to ensure reliability of the plant, identifying and raising work orders, and operating process equipment within agreed parameters.
  • Ensure customer quality requirements are met through adjustments as necessary.
  • Represent the process team in RCAs, FMEAs, PSSRs, and HAZOPs to support ongoing initiatives.
  • Deliver identified Kaizen improvement actions and other manufacturing improvement opportunities.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in chemical process operation is preferred.
  • GCSE level C or above in English, Maths, Science (Chemistry or Physics) is essential.
  • City and Guild level 1 or 2 in Process Technology Chemical Processes or equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • DCS plant operation, mainframe business software, and ASPEN are preferred.
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft office suite Excel, Word, Internet, etc. - Intermediate level.
  • Basic mechanical understanding is a plus.
