We are a leading energy company operating the high-voltage electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland.


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Transmission Engineer to join our team, responsible for designing, specifying and applying electrical plant at transmission voltage levels 132 kV and above.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical specifications for electrical primary plant, including GIS/GIB, AIS CBs, Disconnectors, Earthing Switches, Instrument Transformers, Surge Arresters, MSCDN, Filters, etc.
  • Review test plans to ensure selected technology and equipment are adequately tested and validated.
  • Provide subject matter expert input to design reviews and verify project proposals are fit for purpose.
  • Offer technical guidance and advice to the transmission business on new plant and replacement, as well as to Operations regarding equipment capability or fault investigations.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
  • Demonstrable experience on an expert level in the design, specification and application of electrical plant such as AIS or GIS switchgear, instrument transformers or FACTS/HVDC at transmission voltage levels 132 kV and above.
  • The ability to critically assess technical solutions and have an in-depth understanding of the technical requirements for design, planning, operation and development of the transmission network.
  • A detailed knowledge and understanding of National Grid, British and European Standards.
